Indonesia has prepared around Rupiah100 billion (USD7.8 million) to continue restructuring and modernising the garment-textile industry in 2015.

Minister of Industry Saleh Husin on February 13th said garment-textile is the seed to boost the export of non-oil products.

Since 2007, the country has carried out a programme to equip new technology for the sector, increase its productivity of 4-10 percent, and generate jobs for nearly 242,000 workers.

Between 2007 and 2014, the Indonesian Government poured about Rupiah1.4 trillion (USD110 million) to increase the industry’s competitive edge.

Last year, the country grossed USD13 billion from apparel exports. The figure is expected to top USD75.4 billion by 2030.

It is ranked 9th globally in the field and aims to surpass China to become the world’s leading garment exporter.

Garment-textile and footwear are the two main contributors to Indonesia’s manufacturing revenue and gross domestic product (GDP)./.
