A British production company will bring its new play “Frankenstein – The Monster and the Myth” to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City next month.

The TNT Theatre Britain’s production, inspired by the Mary Shelley famous novel in 1818 and Hollywood adaptations, is a Gothic comedy and a horror thriller.

Producers say the play will explore the darker themes within the myth by questioning the morality and rationality of human cloning and artificial life, and the boundary of science.

But there’s a love story as well.

The production is directed by Phil Smith and Paul Stebbings, with music and sound effects by composer Paul Flush.

It uses the style of serious Gothic comedy that Stebbings has explored in successful productions such as The Murder Of Sherlock Holmes, Brave New World, A Christmas Carol and Dr Jekyl & Mr Hyde.

The performances in English will be featured in Hanoi Opera House on March 18, at 8 p.m. and in the HCMC Opera House on March 20 at 11 a.m., and March 21 and 22 at 8 p.m.

Tickets priced at VND500,000-600,000 (US$23-28) are available at the Hanoi Opera House, 1 Trang Tien Street, or at Vietnam Performing Arts Center, 32 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street. Ticket prices will be halved for students.

For the HCMC shows, tickets are sold at the Opera House, 7 Lam Son Square, District 1.
