PM chairs teleconference on sustainable poverty reduction


PM Nguyen Tan Dung chaired a national teleconference on sustainable poverty reductionto review the work in 2014 and devise a plan for 2015 for the Central Steering Committee on Sustainable Poverty Reduction (CSCR) in the 2011-2020 period.


In 2015, the CSCR will strive to reduce the rate of poor households nationwide below 5% and 30% in disadvantaged districts.


The targeted rate of poor households in the 2016-2020 period is 1-1.5% per year nationwide and 3-4% per year in disadvantaged districts and communes. Disadvantaged people will have better access to social services and incomes of poor households in the 2016-2020 period are expected to be doubled compared to 2015.


Businesses can become strategic investors in Viet Nam: DPM


Deputy PM Vu Van Ninh has stressed that such businesses as the AIA Group can become strategic or finance investors in Viet Nam when the country has great demand for infrastructure development through long-term capital sources.


Deputy PM Ninh made the statement when receiving Edward Tucker, the Executive Director and ChiefExecutive of AIA Group Limited in Ha Noi.


Tucker expressed his hope that the group will join long-term investment in the country’s infrastructure through buying Government bonds and developing the group’s business here.


VFF President visits Thanh Hoa Bishop’s Office


Viet Nam Fatherland Front (VFF) President Nguyen Thien Nhan paid a visit to the Thanh Hoa Bishop’s Office prior to the new Lunar New Year Festival.


He acknowledged Thanh Hoa parishioners and dignitarie’ achievements in implementing Party guidelines and State policies and urged them to promote the sense of religious devoutness and patriotism in enhancing unity, building a cultural lifestyle, and developing the provincial economy.


Bishop Nguyen Chi Minh pledged to work with the local government to care for the life of local Catholics and encourage them to raise high patriotism and civil duty in implementing the Party’s guidelines and state laws and engage in the VFF’s social campaigns.


Meeting marks 65 years of VN- Hungary diplomatic ties


The Viet Nam-Hungary Friendship Association and the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisations in Ho Chi Minh City held a ceremony to mark the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Hungary (February 3, 1950- February 3, 2015).


In 2014, trade between HCM City and Hungary reached nearly $44 million, up 24% from the previous year; more than 1,200 Hungarian travellers visited the city.


Meanwhile, Hungarian businesses invested $3.7 million in four projects in HCM City.


Vietnamese tourism to Republic of Korea booms


The Republic of Korea (RoK) is attracting increasing numbers of Vietnamese travellers thanks to its scenic landscapes, distinctive culture and simplified visa procedures.


The Ho Chi Minh City-based BenThanh Tourist, through its cooperation with the Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO), Viet Nam Airlines and VietJet Air, is offering tours to the RoK at VND17.99 million ($850) per person, a 30 percent reduction


Last year, there were approximately 140,000 Vietnamese visitors to the RoK, a 20% increase from 2013, according to the Ha Noi Moi (New Ha Noi) newspaper.


Viettel launches switchboard for Lao customers


The Vietnamese Military Telecom Corporation (Viettel) and the Lao Ministry of Post and Telecommunication (MPT) officially launched a system to standardise the Lao language font for mobile devices and computers.


Accordingly, the font system of the Lao language for mobile phones as well as the process for entering characters on devices using Android and iOS operating systems and computers using Windows will be widely deployed.


The system will be used by nearly 5 million subscribers and make telecom services accessible to 7 million people across the country.
