A model green school was launched at an elementary school in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday with the aim of raising students’ awareness of energy conservation, newswire Vietnamplus reported.
Luong The Vinh Elementary School in District 1, Vietnam’s first green school model, features LED lighting technology and uses solar-powered cell systems connected to a 2kWp electricity network to power equipment such as electric fans, air conditioners, refrigerators and TVs.
The school is also considered a model in education which saves energy for the city’s school system.
Local authorities are expected to implement a project in which each year the city will have six to eight new green schools that apply energy saving solutions.
Statistics issued by the Energy Conservation Center of Ho Chi Minh City showed that households and schools currently account for 40 percent of the total energy consumption in the city.
On the same day, Luong The Vinh Elementary School also held an energy saving festival featuring various activities aimed at raising students’ awareness of the issue.
