At the conference
NDO – The Vietnam National University (VNU), Hanoi opened their annual conference for key officials of the ASEAN University Network (AUN) to discuss ways to enhance the network’s quality assurance system.
The two-day conference was attended by members of the AUN Board of Trustees from 40 AUN member universities, and from Japan, China, and the Republic of Korea.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr Phung Xuan Nha, Director of the VNU, Hanoi said, since 1998, with the introduction of the quality assurance system, the AUN has achieved positive results in building and developing common policies and criteria for the member universities, which helped raise the standing of Southeast Asian education during the international integration process.
So far, the VNA has 15 training programmes that were granted certificates meeting the standards of the AUN Quality Assurance System, he noted.
Established in 1995, AUN aims to strengthen mutual understanding among member universities through training and quality assessment programmes for mutual recognition of academic degrees.
The AUN aims to strengthen the existing network and enhance solidarity among the universities in ASEAN.
The organisation serves as a policy-oriented body in higher education and as a platform for collaborative study, research and educational programmes on the priority areas identified by ASEAN. Some of the focus areas of AUN include student mobility among AUN Member Universities, exchanges among ASEAN scholars, and joint activities (academic conferences and workshops).
