A ceremony to officially add them to their fleet of vehicles was held on Saturday, during which 44 Toyota Camry Hybrids were unveiled as non-refundable aid Japan provided and counted in the fiscal year 2013.

The cars were given to Hanoi police in order to increase security in the processes of patrolling, crime prevention and maintaining traffic safety in the capital.

Major General Nguyen Duc Chung, director of the Hanoi Police Department, appreciated the contribution of the Japanese government in terms of improving the quality of vehicles to support local police forces’ mission, especially to prepare for the upcoming 132nd IPU conference, which will take place in the capital from March 28 to April 1.

“Hanoi police pledge to receive and use the vehicles for the right purpose, preserve them to serve our affairs and contribute to reducing environmental pollution,” Chung said.

According to Atsuki Tomoyose, the First Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam, the handover of the 44 cars was aimed at supporting Hanoi police officers in better completing their tasks, as well as raising awareness of environmental protection.

The Toyota Camry Hybrid cars apply advanced and environmentally friendly technology, according to the Vietnam Government Portal.

They can travel 25.4 km with one liter of gasoline, according to autopro.com.vn, a website which provides information on automobiles.

The 132nd IPU conference will welcome nearly 2,000 foreign delegates from 150 nations and international organizations and feature a plenary session, other sessions of standing committees, a meeting of women parliamentarians and a forum of young parliamentarians.

It is the principal statutory body that expresses views on political issues. It brings together parliamentarians to study international problems and make recommendations for action.
