Two South Korean groups have recently expressed interest in investing US$5 billion into the project which will be implemented at Ho Chi Minh City’s Ba Son shipyard area in District 1.

EUNSAN and OUE, two groups from South Korea, have suggested investing $5 billion into the Ba Son project. It is part of a major plan to redesign the city center, along with other key infrastructure plans including the Metro Line No.1, which is now under construction, and the Thu Thiem 2 Bridge, which will span over the shipyard.

Following the plan, Ba Son Shipyard will be developed into a commercial-service-urban complex.

Le Hoang Quan, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the Ba Son shipyard is under the management of the Vietnamese Defense Ministry. Therefore, the South Korean firms will receive full support from the city authorities in case they get approval from both the government and the ministry.

The municipal Department of Planning and Investment has been assigned to give EUNSAN and OUE advice on several procedures, including establishing representative offices in HCMC and legal status in accordance with current regulations.

The Ba Son shipyard project is expected to launch its groundbreaking ceremony on the 70th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day, which will take place on September 2.

Ba Son shipyard is a long-standing builder that was established by the French government in April, 1863 to repair warships and merchant vessels.
