More Vietnamese government organizations have looked to Facebook for more effective interaction with members of the public, and the southern province of Dong Thap appears supportive of the trend.

The administration of Dong Thap, known as a hub of beautiful flowers in the Mekong Delta, has its own Facebook page, whereas many other organizations are also contacting people via the world’s largest social network.

Dong Thap has the most publicly-run Facebook page compared to its peers in the delta region, including Long An, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long, Soc Trang, An Giang, Bac Lieu, and Ca Mau, according to Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper.

Facebook is an “effective means of communication thanks to its social interaction,” the Hanoi-based newspaper quoted Ngo Thi Ngoc Hanh, deputy director of the province’s television and radio station, as saying.

The administration of Cao Lanh, the provincial capital city, the Dong Thap news portal, and Dong Thap University are also on Facebook.

Cao Lanh authorities are working to turn the city into a “city of lotuses,” and creating a Facebook page for the provincial administration is among the essential tasks to complete this goal.

The Cao Lanh Facebook page went online in 2012 and has attracted nearly 7,000 followers.

The city’s deputy chairman, Le Ha Luan, told Tien Phong that local public servants are encouraged to join the page.

The official Facebook page of Dong Thap University, meanwhile, has been a good communication channel for the school’s lecturers and students.

“The participation of lecturers on the school’s Facebook page has set a good example for students in exchanging information or making the best use of the Internet,” said Nguyen Van Nghiem, a Dong Thap University employee.

Earlier this month, the Vietnamese Ministry of Health also announced the official Facebook page of Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, who uses it as a channel to provide information and receive questions regarding healthcare from the public.

The page was founded in late 2014 and now has more than 133,000 followers.
