The US and Vietnam are conducting humanitarian assistance operations from March 24-30 in central Vietnam as part of a mission led by the US’s Pacific Air Forces.

The US$1.4-million Operation Pacific Angel (PACANGEL) 15-3 in Quang Ngai Province includes general health, dental, optometry, pediatrics and engineering programs, as well as various subject-matter expert exchanges.

Approximately 75 US military members, along with local non-governmental organizations and Vietnam’s military forces have joined the mission.

PACANGEL enhances participating nations’ humanitarian assistance and disaster relief capabilities.

This is the fifth time it is launched in Vietnam, and its first visit in Quang Ngai, authorities says. The mission also opened a $690,000 center for natural disaster defense in the province.

Since 2007, US military members, together with host nation military and civilian personnel throughout the region, have improved the lives of tens of thousands of people through PACANGEL operations, the mission said on its website.
