Vietnam wishes stronger partnership with Thailand

(VOV) – State President Truong Tan Sang has reiterated Vietnam’s desire to propel relations with Thailand towards deepening the strategic partnership between the two nations.


At a reception for visiting Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thanasak Patimapragorn in Hanoi on March 20, President Sang hailed the outcome of the 2nd session of the Joint Commission on Vietnam-Thailand Bilateral Cooperation and both nations’ combined efforts to strengthen the strategic partnership and cooperation in trade, economics investment and labour.


Regarding mutual support at regional and international forums, Sang said he hopes Thailand would continue to play a greater role in ASEAN and shaping the ASEAN community to protect the interests of the community based on the ASEAN Charter.


With its role as coordinator for ASEAN-China relations, Thailand will have voice for the efforts to maintain peace and stability in the East Sea (South China Sea) in line with international law, the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) towards achieving a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).


The two sides will review all areas of cooperation- economics, politics, defence-security to outline orientations for future cooperation, Thanasak Patimapragorn told Sang.


He suggested Vietnam creating the best possible conditions for Thai businesses to engage in major projects in the country and carrying out practical activities marking the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2016.
