This year’s campaign received positive responses from local celebrities like musician Quoc Trung, director Charlie Nguyen, choreographer Tran Ly Ly, and singers Thu Minh, Uyen Linh, Gil Le as well as actress/model Chi Pu.
Previously, the governments of Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand agreed to stop dog sales for people’s consumption in Hanoi in 2013 and in Bangkok in 2014. The authorities of the three countries have supported ACPA in programs to prevent and stop rabies and raise people’s awareness on risks from dog meat’s sales and consumption to human health.
Vietnam’s National Assembly for the first time will have discussions on Animal Welfare regulations in a draft law of veterinary sciences next month.
This is considered an important step for local animal protection and a good signal for organizations like ACPA who have run numerous animal protection campaigns over the years.
According to statistics by ACPA, there have been five million dogs killed for meat annually. These poor animals were stuck into iron cages and transferred to many places. Many of them died of hunger and heat shock before being hitting slaughter houses or food shops in Vietnam.
