On March 31st, Lufthansa Airlines, said its insurance companies are setting aside USD300 million for expenses related to the crash of Germanwings Flight 4U9525. The crash site of the ill-fated airplane (Photo: Reuters) Lufthansa is the parent company of the low-cost carrier Germanwings, said the USD300 million figure included financial compensation for victims’ families and the cost of the aircraft itself. On March 30th, the director of operations at Germanwings, Oliver Wagner said the company would immediately compensate each family with EUR50,000. The money will be separate from the compensation the airline will have to pay over the disaster. The Airbus A320 carrying 150 people from Barcelona in Spain to Dusseldorf in Germany crashed into the French Alps on March 24th with the cause of the crash reported to be as a direct result of the co-pilots actions. Flight 4U9525 disappeared from radar at 10am local time. Reports suggest there 144 passengers and 6 crew on board./. |
