War veterans gather

PANO – War veterans in Ho Chi Minh City gathered on April 12th to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the South Liberation and National Reunification Day (April 30th).


Major General Nguyen Van Chuong, Deputy Chairman of the city War Veterans’ Association, reminisced about glorious feats of arms of the association’s members in wartime, and their contributions to the city’s development.


On behalf of the city’s leaders, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Le Thanh Hai highlighted the veterans’ efforts in national construction and defence.

He urged them to continue upholding the noble virtues of Uncle Ho’s soldiers, mobilizing their family members to build up the cultural life, and participating in activities to strengthen socio-political organizations at the grassroots level.


* The same day, the War Veterans’ Association of Transport Division 571 of the former Truong Son Command held a ceremony in Hanoi to mark the 40th anniversary of the South Liberation and National Reunification Day.


Established on July 12th 1973, the unit was in charge of transporting foods, weapons and troops to battlefields in South Vietnam, and carrying out international missions in Laos and Cambodia.


For their great deeds in the resistance war, dozens of its units and individuals were presented with the title “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces”.
