The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Vietnam signed a US$500 million loan agreement for the second tranche of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Mass Rapid Transit Line 2 (MRT2) Investment Programme to solve the long-term urban transport demands of the most dynamic city of the country.
The second tranche of the MRT2 Investment Programme provides ADB funding for construction of the main line of 11.3km MTR2 stretching from Ben Thanh in the downtown of Ho Chi Minh City, out passing the Tan Son Nhat International Airport to Tham Luong, including station facilities.
ADB Country Director for Vietnam Tomoyuki Kimura said: “The MRT project will make Vietnam one of the leading countries in the region to proactively address climate change through adaptation of low carbon transport modes. More importantly, people, especially women, students and children, in HCM City will benefit most from improved and cheaper transportation that will create more business opportunities, reduce congestion and improve the quality of life.”
