Along with renowned Vietnamese artists such as Bui Cong Duy, Nguyen Manh Duy Linh, Dao Nhat Quang, Dang Linh Nga and Nguyen Phuc Hung, the festival features two young talents from Moscow Tran Dieu Linh and Tran Dieu An.
There are also six young artists from Spivakov foundation in Russia, including German pianist Hinrich Alpers, German conductor Christian Schumann and Norwegian choreographer Johanne Jakhelln Constant.
On opening day, the gala will feature pieces such as Johann Sebastien Bach’s Concerto for 2 pianos & orchestra, Carl Stamitz’s Concerto for clarinet, bassoon & orchestra in B Flat Major and Vietnamese folk choir ‘Dong chay’ by composer Tran Manh Hung.
On August 17, the show will start with Edvard Grieg’s String Quartet No.1 in G Minor, op.27, 1st mov. and also includes Astor Piazzolla’s Histoire du Tango-Bordel 1900 for flute and two marimbas, George Frideric Handel’s Passacaglia Duo for violin and cello, Cesare Frank’s Sonate in A Major for violin & piano III – IV mov., and Nebosja Jovan Zivkovic’s Trio Per Uno for 3 percussions (1st mov.). The second part will entertain audiences with Carl Maria von Weber Grand’s duo concertante for clarinet & piano, Darius Milhaud’s Scaramouche for two pianos and Camille Saint-Saens’s Carnival of Animals.
Twenty-four hours later the ballet Chuyen tinh non song choreographed by Vu Viet Cuong will thrill audiences. Meanwhile, August 19′s concert sets the stage for ten talents from Vladimir Spivakov foundation, Russia with performances on violin, cello, saxophone, flute, clarinet, accordion, balalaica and vocals.
Ballet ‘Cinderella’ – a cooperation with Transposition Program-Norway – will be staged on August 20.
A piano recital with Hinrich Alpers is on August 21 and the next day there is a symphony concert in collaboration with the Goethe Institute in HCMC, featuring popular pieces such as Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the common man, Johannes Brahms’ Piano Concerto No.1, Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No.4, John Cage’s 4’33 and Johannes Brahms’s Hungarian Dance No.1.
Moreover, a workshop on music will be hosted with lectures by conductor Christian Schumann, pianist Hinrich Alpers, violinist Bui Cong Duy and conductor Tran Nhat Minh. Another workshop on dance will be attended by choreographers Johanne Jakhelln Constant and Nguyen Phuc Hung for audiences and students.
‘Young melodies’ will also be held at the Opera House, 7 Lam Son Square at 8 p.m. on August 25.
