In 2013, the central province of Phu Yen has so far invested VND35.4 billion to assist the implementation of the national sustainable poverty reduction programme through production models at family level and to help build rural infrastructure in extremely disadvantaged communes.
As reported by the Nhan Dan (People) newspaper, VND5.6 billion has been spent on nine rural traffic and irrigation systems in sixteen extremely disadvantaged communes in coastal areas. In addition a further ten extremely disadvantaged communes and sixty-five extremely disadvantaged villages populated by ethnic minorities have also received investment totaling VND17 billion to build infrastructure.
Another four sustainable poverty reduction models are being carried out in Son Hoa and Song Hinh districts. Nearly seventy families, mainly from ethnic minorities, providing some one hundred and twenty-four labourers have joined the models and been given 100% assistance with seeding 600 rubber trees for each hectare of land, and with VND12-15 million for each hectare of sugarcane planted. Planting and caring techniques have also been disseminated among workers.
The two other projects being assessed for implementation in the mountainous district of Dong Xuan, include forest planting and dove breading.
This year, the provincial Bank for Social Policies has disbursed over VND55 billion to over 2,800 poor families to assist production, mainly in planting sugarcane and cassava, raising pigs and cows, and establishing small business./.
