Hoang Quy Phuoc grabbed the latest gold medal in the men’s 100m freestyle swimming event at the 4th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Incheon, South Korea, helping Vietnam rank fifth on the table with three golds.
Earlier, the athlete from Da Nang City had won a silver medal in the men’s 200m freestyle and a bronze medal in the men’s 100m butterfly.
So, the Vietnamese swimming team grabbed 2 golds, 2 silvers and a bronze medal at the tournament. The other gold was taken by Nguyen Thi Anh Vien in the women’s 200m individual medley.
Other fellows Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen and Tran Duy Khoi failed to win a medal though they surpassed their own results set up at home.
The other gold medals for Vietnam were achieved by Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat in men’s 57kg Muay (kickboxing) event, and Van Ngoc Tu in the women’s 52kg Kurash (wrestling) event.
With 4 golds, 6 silvers and 7 bronzes, Vietnam ranked fifth on the final medal table after China, South Korea, Thailand, and Kazakhstan.
Around 2,400 athletes and officials took part in the 10-sport tournament held from June 29 to July 6 in Incheon City.
