(VEN) – The Vietnam Cleaner Production Center (VNCPC), the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) and their partners recently launched a project to build a sustainable pangasius supply chain (SUPA).
The project will be developed from 2013-2017 focusing on building capacity, boosting responsible production, improving quality, reducing negative environmental impact and reducing production costs via Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RE-CP).
European Union (EU) development cooperation counselor Berenice Muraille said that the project would increase the competitiveness of Vietnamese Tra fish in the world market. Through the project the EU will support the entire Tra fish supply system, regarding breeding, feed, processing, export and end-users.
It is expected that after the project is completed, a minimum 70 percent of medium to large-sized Tra fish production and processing businesses and 30 percent of small-sized independent feed production facilities and farms will apply RE-CP. In addition, at least 50 percent of project-involving businesses will receive sustainable products, which meet standards like ASC for the European market and others./.
