The corporation achieved satisfactory results in the first half of 2013 through managing 247,514 flights, 50.3 percent of the yearly plan and a rise of 10.5 percent compared with the same period last year.

VATM considers ensuring flight safety as an important task. In early 2013, the corporation submitted to the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam a safety management system (SMS) document for approval, established a safety steering committee and safety teams at its member units, and provided SMS training for VATM staff members.

At the same time, the corporation increased political education for its staff members, especially the heads of units, air traffic controllers and technicians. VATM also proposed to the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam lots of changes to flight modes, flight routes and airport regulations as well as measures to prevent jams in the area around the Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

To implement the restructuring project which has been approved by the Ministry of Transport as well as direct instructions of the Minister of Transport, VATM has established a committee for internal control and a safety committee. In addition, the corporation has approved the restructuring plan of its Commercial Services Center so that in 2014 it can ensure the balance between revenue and expenditure according to a roadmap that has been approved by the Ministry of Transport. VATM has established a training center and a search and rescue coordination center. The corporation’s workforce has been reorganized to consist of direct and indirect employees.

The corporation has issued a regulation on construction investment management and supplemented, amended internal management regulations. Thanks to these efforts, VATM has accelerated its investment projects. On June 16, 2013, the corporation put the air traffic control tower at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport into operation as committed with the leadership of the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam.

Based on the encouraging results of the first six months of 2013 as well as the strong determination and great efforts of all staff members of the corporation, VATM believes that under the guidance of its leadership, the corporation will be able to successfully fulfill all the tasks of 2013.

On July 2, 2013, VATM inaugurated the air traffic control tower at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport. The corporation has invested over VND400.62 billion in this project. The construction of the tower began on December 5, 2009. The project was put into official operation on June 16, 2013.

The project provides flight management services (approach control, aerodrome control, ground control and area control) 24 hours per day to ensure that the Tan Son Nhat International Airport can work at its full capacity. The air traffic control tower meets the highest technical and safety standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), using advanced technologies to ensure safety for each flight.
