SON LA (VNS)- Customs officials and border guards in the northern mountainous province of Son La confronted two drug smugglers on Saturday in Yen Chau District’s Phieng Khoai Commune, seizing 24,000 methamphetamine pills – the largest haul ever uncovered in the province.
According to the Son La Customs Department, after detecting the two suspects driving between villages they were stopped and searched by officials.
The smugglers seized a moment of opportunity and were able to escape, fleeing under the cover of nightfall. They left behind a sports bag containing the pills, a motorbike and two bike license plates. At the time of writing the suspects have yet to be apprehended.
