The show, A Panorama of the Brazilian Music, is being held to celebrate the 191st anniversary of Brazilian Independence Day on September 7.
During the concert in Ha Noi, the two musicians will present famous Brazilian classics and popular works by Brazilian composers including Guerra Peixe, Camargo Guarnieri, Ernesto Nazareth, and Pattapio Silvia.
Bastos began his flute education when he was 17-years-old by enrolling at the musical academy Villa-Lobos in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2006, he graduated from the Institute of Music and Theatre Zurich with a concert diploma.
He is a member of the Modern South America Ensemble and, together with guitarist Edmauro de Oliveira, forms the acclaimed "Duo Brasilis". He is also part of the group "Deu Choro" which has brought Brazilian music – especially the modern choro, dubbed the "New Orleans jazz of Brazil" – closer to European audiences since forming in 2004. The group's first album is due to be released later this year.
Borges on the other hand was an early starter and first sat at a piano when she was only eight years old. She received a bachelor's degree in piano from the Paraiba Federal University and in 1996 graduated from the Bern Music Academy, specialising in piano performance.
Five years later, Borges obtained a master's degree at the Martin Luther University in Halle, Germany.
Having received several top awards from different piano competitions in Brazil, she is currently a solo pianist in the city symphony orchestras of Porto Alegre and Recife.
Borges has previously teamed up with flutist Bastos to perform in Bern in 2010, later the same year in Zurich and in Zagreb, Croatia, in 2012.
Hosted by the Brazilian Embassy in Viet Nam, the duo's performance will take place at the Ha Noi Opera House on September 4 from 8pm.
