A book of 150 photographs chronicling former Cuban President Fidel Castro’s historical visit to the liberated region of central Quang Tri province in September 1973 has been made public.

The 75-page bilingual Vietnamese-English book titled “Fidel Castro – Quang Tri, a Historical Day 1973″, was published by the Thuan Hoa Publishing House.

The pictures, accompanied with clear explanations, were taken by veteran photographer – journalist Sy So, who was a war correspondent in the demilitarized zone of Quang Tri province.

He was one of a few Vietnamese journalists who accompanied Castro during his visit to Quang Tri, the only visit by a foreign state leader to a fierce battlefield in Vietnam at that time. His photos taken during the trip were displayed at an exhibition in 2011 to celebrate Castro’s 85th birthday.

The book was released to mark 40 years since president Fidel Castro’s visit./.
