(CPV) -Foreign tourist arrivals in the first nine months this year reached more than 5.49 million, an increase of 9.9 percent over the same period last year, the General Statistics Office has said.

Over 614,000 people arrived in September alone, an increase of 28.9 percent from one year ago. Of this, number of foreign tourists arriving Vietnam by air posted more than 458,000, accounting for 74.52 percent while those coming to the country by sea and road were over 18,500 (3.02 percent) and 138,000 (22.46 percent), respectively
During the Jan-Sep period, markets seeing sharp growth in comparison to the same period last year were Russia (65.9 percent), China (37 percent), Thailand (23.1 percent), New Zealand (20.5 percent) and Indonesia (19.9 percent).
The number of domestic tourists hit 31 million in the first nine months this year, a surge of 11 percent year-on-year. Total tourism turnover reached more than VND152 trillion, up 23.5 percent./.
