The Republic of Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will pay an official visit to Vietnam from September 11 to 13 to boost bilateral ties between the two countries, Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry announced in a press briefing in Hanoi on Thursday.

The visit is made at the official invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, said the ministry spokesperson, Luong Thanh Nghi.

During his visit, PM Lee Hsien Loong and his Vietnamese counterpart will discuss measures to deepen the bilateral relations and take them to a new height, Nghi said.

The Singaporean Premier will also meet with other Vietnamese high-ranking leaders and attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the fifth Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park in Quang Ngai.

In addition, the Singaporean leader will pay visit to a number of economic and cultural organizations in Hanoi.

Last month Singapore’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs said that the Singapore-Vietnam relations will be upgraded to a strategic partnership during PM Lee Hsien Loong’s visit to Vietnam on September 11.

Last month, in a congratulatory letter to his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Tan Dung on the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the two countries’ diplomatic relations on August 1, PM Lee Hsien Loong said the strategic partnership will create good conditions for stronger relations between the two countries.

Loong said that the four Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Parks that are operating well in Vietnam reflect the excellent bilateral economic ties, adding that he expects to open a fifth such park during his coming visit to Vietnam.

Currently, Singapore is among the largest foreign investors in Vietnam, with its investment amounting to US$30 billion.
