Viet My Garment Co., Ltd (TAV Limited), established in 2004 with a total investment capital of VND1,100 billion, primarily manufactures woven and knitted shirts. After nearly 10 years of development, TAV has achieved great successes and affirmed its brand name and reputation in the international market. In 2012, overcoming hardships caused by economic downturn, TAV’s exports still reached 6.8 million units, up 25 percent year on year, earning outsourcing revenue of VND270 billion. In particular, in the first six months of 2013, the company exported over 4 million products and made outsourcing revenue of VND150 billion.
Since its inception, TAV has placed central tasks of developing human resources on two aspects: Management and profession. The company always ensures at least 30 days of training for new employees. For direct production force, the company focuses on improving workmanship and skills for new employees when there are new orders for difficult products. For indirect production force, the improvement of management capacity through long-term in-house training programmes led by certified trainers has been given much importance. TAV has identified nine core management competencies, each of which has different levels for different product orientation. Quarterly, the company examines individual capabilities to provide further training, from basic to advanced training. Currently, TAV has 150 managers, accounting for 30 percent of total indirect production employees, who are taking part in this programme. Besides, to ensure productivity, quality and customer satisfaction, TAV regularly sends staff members to overseas factories to acquire experience and knowledge and builds programme to gather collective power and inspire employees to contribute ideas, and build a professional learning and development environment.
Apart from human resources training, TAV always pays attention to improving working conditions for employees, and applying scientific and technical progress to production for better energy saving and better environmental protection. The company uses ceramic bricks to build walls to reduce heat radiation, uses glass tubes to exhaust heat, and installs air conditioning system to manage dust concentration. Every year, the firm measures at least seven environmental indicators in workplaces like light, noise, dust, air circulation and humidity to ensure the best and safest working environment possible for employees.
In 2011, the company was assessed and granted the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification. The company planted trees on 30 percent of the factory campus, replaced and used 5,000 new LED bulbs and automatic switches to reduce lighting energy use by 60 percent. Specially, the company built wastewater treatment system and 700-cubic metre underground tanks to store rain water, which saved about 12,000 cubic metres a year for the company.
Remarking on the company’s development orientation, Director Vu Kim Oanh said, for the time being, the company continues maintaining and developing the current strategy, that is, focusing on mainstream products for traditional customers and bringing added value to customers from product quality and service quality. In 2013, the company targets to export at least 8.4 million products, an increase of 28 percent over 2012, earn outsourcing revenue of VND360 billion, and export 10 million products in 2014.
As the first foreign-invested company in Thai Binh province, TAV expects the government to create a mechanism that ensures both openness and healthy competition in labour, ensures security in industrial parks, and guarantees stable power supply for companies.
