Troops brace for Storm No. 10

PANO – Before the arrival of Storm No. 10 (Typhoon Wutip), army units have instructed their troops to help local people and well prepare for its development.

In the afternoon of September 29th, the Border Guards called 49,777 ships and more than 254,000 people and fishermen to seek refuge from the storm. Border guards stationed in mountainous areas were ready to help local people, while teaming up with local authorities to check plans to deal with flash floods and landslides.


Also on September 29th, Lieutenant General Le Chiem, Commander of Military Zone 5 chaired a meeting to take measures against Storm No. 10. The zone sent three missions to inspect the preparations for storm control at organs and units which may be affected by the storm.


According to Colonel Nguyen Hoang Khoi, head of Military Zone 5′s Search and Rescue Department, the zone has mobilized more than 1,200 troops, 2,250 reservists, 40 different vehicles, and 142 boats to be ready for action at any time.


Meanwhile, the Command of Military Zone 4 set up a command post in Quang Tri province to direct local armed forces. Thousands of troops, hundreds of vehicles and tents are ready to engage in search and rescue missions. 5 trucks and nearly 1,000 troops under Division 968 are on standby. Brigade 414 sent its troops, some specialized vehicles and lifeboats to join the command post.


From 5am on September 30, 11,901 people in Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue were evacuated to safer areas.
