On November 17, voting in Chile’s presidential race began with more than 13.5 million Chileans going to the polls to choose a new president from nine candidates.
The result showed that left-wing candidate Michelle Bachelet has won the first round of voting in Chile’s presidential election.
She took nearly 47% of the vote. Her main rival, Evelyn Matthei, who was the Chile’s Former Minister of Labor, got 25%.
Michelle Bachelet was the heavy favourite to return to the presidency as Chileans began to vote on November 17, with supporters hoping she can fulfil promises to reform a dictatorship-era system.
Voters will also elect 120 members of the chamber of deputies, 20 senators, and local and regional officials.
About 18,500 police were appointed to protect the polling stations./.
