CELAC conference on fight against corruption opens in Bolivia

The first meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) on transparency and the fight against corruption has opened at Los Tajibos Hotel in the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, in eastern Bolivia.


The conference was attended by ministers and top authorities from over 30 nations.


Bolivian Minister of Transparency and the Fight Against Corruption, Ms Nardy Suxo, said the conference created a chance for CELAC members to discuss the importance of preventing corruption and promoting international cooperation in the judiciary.


Bolivia is appreciated as a country having experience in preventing and fighting against corruption.


Created in July 2010 on the initiative of late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, CELAC aims to create its own space and promote the integration and development of Latin American and Caribbean countries.


The organization aims to unite all Latin American and Caribbean states in order to strengthen the political, social and cultural integration of the region, improve its quality of life, stimulate its economic growth, and advance the well-being of all of its people.


At present, Cuba is the Chairman of CELAC./.
