Defence Minister receives foreign ambassadors

PANO – General Phung Quang Thanh, Minister of National Defence, received Indian, Japanese and Republic of Korea (RoK) Ambassadors to Vietnam at the Headquarters of the Ministry of National Defence on November 15th.


Welcoming the Indian Ambassador Ms. Shrimati Preeti Saran, General Phung Quang Thanh praised India’s position in the international arena and hoped that India would make more contributions to the peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia Pacific.

The Minister of National Defence stressed that defence cooperation is a bright spot in the Vietnam-India strategic partnership. The two sides have been promoting their joint activities through delegation exchanges, information sharing, post-war bomb and mine clearance and defence strategy dialogues at deputy ministerial level.


For her part, Ambassador Shrimati Preeti Saran held that the growing bilateral defence cooperation has become an important pillar in the fine relationship between the two nations. She pledged to do utmost to deepen the cooperation in accordance with the two sides’ potential.


Also at other receptions, General Phung Quang Thanh has vowed all possible support for the newly-accredited Japanese and RoK Ambassadors Hiroshi Fukada and Jun Dae Joo to fulfill their tasks and hoped the diplomats would contribute to boosting defence cooperation between Vietnam and Japan and the RoK.


Japanese Ambassador Hiroshi Fukada expressed his pleasure to see the development of defence cooperation between Vietnam and Japan, especially since the Memorandum of Understanding on National Defence Cooperation was inked in 2011 and promised to serve as a bridge for boosting the bilateral comprehensive cooperation, including defence field.


Meanwhile, the RoK Ambassador Jun Dae Joo thanked the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence for its help to rescue 19 sailors on the RoK-flagged carrier Heung A Dragon which was collided off Vung Tau coast on November 8th and believed that the Vietnam-RoK defence cooperation would reap fruits in the time to come.
