CA MAU (VNS)— River water levels in southernmost Ca Mau Province have fallen up to 1.5m below the average level as a result of the prolonged drought, hampering river traffic.

The slowdown in river traffic has caused big problems in the province which reportedly has more than 10,000 rivers and 200,000 boats which transport up to 80 per cent of total goods.

In major rivers Bay Hap, Cai Tau, Hoa Trung and Trem, the water is at “warning” level, affecting hundreds of riverside shrimp farms. — VNS
