Fake and suspected fake banknotes to be seized

The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) today issued a circular to allow local banks to seize counterfeit and suspected counterfeit Vietnam banknotes. The document will come into effect as of January 20, 2014.


According to the definition of the SBV, a counterfeit banknote is the one that is not approved and issued by the SBV, and a suspected counterfeit banknote is the one that is not yet confirmed if it is genuine.

SBV requires all banks in Vietnam to seize all the counterfeit and suspected counterfeit notes and report them to the SBV.


Local banks are also required to organize a training course for staff to detect counterfeit banknotes.
