Free treatment for poor heart disease patients

BA RIA – VUNG TAU (VNS)- The Department of Health in southern Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province is conducting two cardiac surgery programmes for poor patients.


Since early 2012, 90 patients have undergone surgery: 34 under the “Protection of the Heart” programme at People’s Hospital 115 and 56 patients under the “Connecting Heartbeats” programme at Trieu An Hospital and other facilities.


In 2013, 77 patients will be treated at Trieu An Hospital and 12 others at People’s Hospital 115.


The programmes are funded by the provincial budget and health insurance fund.


In addition, the provincial Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs will provide 40 poor children suffering from heart disease with surgery each year.


Le Thanh Duong, Deputy Chairman of the department, said that the province will pay the entire cost of the procedure for those who cannot afford it.


The province will continue to seek funding from other sources.–VNS
