(CPV) - NEC Vietnam Co,. Ltd has announced its plan for disaster response and relief operations in Vietnam, using telecommunications and ICT solutions.
This information was released the workshop on “ICT applications in mitigating natural disasters” organized by the International Telecommunication Union, Ministry of Information and Communication, Vietnam and Viettel Group in Hanoi.
Statistics from Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development showed that during the recent typhoon season from July until November, over 100,000 households in Central Vietnam have suffered from floods. As many as 210,000 people were injured and 780 were killed. The financial damage can be counted to VND23,071 billion. In Quang Ngai province, flood water rose above the previous peak in 1999.
According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, in Asia, Vietnam is one of the countries most vulnerable to losses from natural disasters. There are at least six storms a year and more then 70% of the population live in areas at risk of flooding.
At the workshop, Mr. Susumu Tanaka, Chief Manager of the Public Business Planning Division, NEC Corporation, presented the solutions that NEC provides to respond to disasters and support disaster relief operations, emergency communications and an international framework for coordination and cooperation in the aftermath of disasters.
NEC’s solutions covers the various sensors required in gathering information on disasters and emergencies, and can supply and integrate the entire disaster management. Data gathered from observation such as surveillance cameras, water level gauges, rain gauges, and seismometers can be fed into a command centre that is able to obtain and process the data in a suitable fashion.
NEC’s solutions introduced in Vietnam including Observation: Ocean bottom observation system, earthquake observation system, land (river, coast, dam) observation system, global navigation satellite systems (Quasi-zenith satellites); Information Gathering: satellite communication system, terrestrial radio system, optical transmission system; Data Analysis & Decision-making: earthquake early warning system, disaster information system, disaster emergency response centre system; Announcement: national early warning system (J-ALERT), municipality disaster management radio system and cell broadcast service system./.
