(VEN) – Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade sent a delegation to attend the Australian International Sourcing Fair 2013, contributing to looking for opportunities to penetrate the Australian market. This market requires product quality and prices in accordance with Vietnam’s production conditions.

Penetrating the Australian market
The Australian market with a population of about 24 million people, including many immigrant communities of Euro and Asia and economic development is the potential market for Vietnam. This market requires product quality and prices in accordance with Vietnam’s production conditions. However, as of date, Vietnamese goods have not yet been well-known in the Australian market.
The Australian International Sourcing Fair 2013 in Melbourne is held once a year and exclusively for Australian businesses to buy products made by countries’ companies participating in the fair.
To implement trade promotion program to promote exports to the Australian market, Hanoi sent a delegation to attend the Australian International Sourcing Fair, which is organized from November 13-15, 2013 in Melbourne. This was the first time Vietnam attended the Australian International Sourcing Fair to introduce garment and textile products and Vietnamese fashion.
Hanoi’s delegation had meetings with the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia, the State of New South Wales’ Chamber of Commerce and Investment, Vietnamese consulate general in Sydney and Australian businesses in Melbourne and Sydney. A delegation also worked with the Australian Ministry of Trade and Investment.
Working with the State of New South Wales’ Chamber of Commerce and Investment in Sydney on cooperation opportunities between the two countries, chief executive officer and high-level officers of the Chamber of Commerce and Investment expressed their wish to send a delegation to Vietnam to survey and look for investment opportunities for Australian businesses.
Hanoi’s delegation worked with the general director of the Woolmark Company. The company committed to support technology and find output for Vietnamese businesses’ products.
Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade also supported businesses to participate in some activities such as surveying the garment and textile market in Melbourne and Sydney, learning about consumer demand for fashion, understanding distribution system, laws and regulations to open a company, branch and agent in Australia and finding out about competitors such as China, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Bangladesh.
Positive signs
The Australian International Sourcing Fair 2013 saw the participation of over 5,000 Australian import companies to look for goods. In addition to purchasing products, Australian businesses also looked for partners to form a joint-venture and invest in production abroad, especially in developing countries.
In three days to introduce products in the Australian International Sourcing Fair, Hanoi businesses met and exchanged information with partners. According to businesses’ representatives, attending in the Australian International Sourcing Fair created favorable opportunities for businesses to penetrate the Australian market.
Hanoi Textile Garment Corporation (Hanosimex)’s representative said that the company’s shirts, uniforms and women jackets in the fair engaged the interest of many Australian companies such as Sherpa, Healthcare Uniform Australia and RM William Pty Ltd. These companies specialize in wool production and importing and retailing garment and textile products in the Australian market.
Dong Xuan Knitting Company (Doximex) specializes in producing knitwear. The company’s products are produced in the self-contained production line due to Japan and Australia’s advanced technology. Many customers paid special attention to the company’s products and most of them are manufacturers and designers. In particular, the company cooperated with the Woolmark Company, who is implementing the project funded by the Australian government on transferring woolen production technology for foreign businesses.
Garment 10 Corporation’s representative said that the company engaged the interest of customers when participating in the fair, including Sherpa, Australia Wool Innovation Limited, LSJ, Healthcare Uniform Australia, Jiangsu Sainty Corporation Ltd, Ausems, Outcome Plus, Retail Apparel Group and Australia Energy Management Services. Almost customers paid special attention to the company’s shirts and suits. In particular, some customers sent information to place orders.
In addition to shirts and suits for men, women suits of the May Ho Guom Company, kid and protective clothing of the Nguyen Hoang Production and Export Service Co., Ltd., sweaters of the Ha Dong Woolen Joint Stock Company, jackets of the Thanh Tri Garment Joint Stock Company, fashionable clothing of the Take Fashion Joint Stock Company and the Elise Clothing Company and kid clothing of the Kico Fashion engaged the interest of Australian customers. The Woolmark Company committed to work with the Ha Dong Woolen Joint Stock Company when the company comes to Vietnam in 2014 to support woolen production technology. At the fair, the Olga Karolina Company and HD Designer Pty Ltd contacted the Elise Clothing Company to place orders.
Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade Deputy Director Pham Duc Tien said that through trade and survey activities in the Australian market, businesses participating in the fair learned how to work with foreign customers. In addition, businesses have more knowledge about marketing, Australia’s distribution system in the retail market, direct sales and online sales. To export garment and textile products into the Australian market, businesses should participate in trade promotion programs through activities of Vietnam Trade Office and overseas Vietnamese community in Australia./.
