The 23-year-old athlete from Quang Ngai province, Pham Thi Binh won the Gold medal in the women’s marathon race on December 16th at the 27th SEA Games held in Myanmar. This is the first gold medal for the Vietnam Athletics at the 27th SEA Games.

Binh finished the race in 2 hours 45 minutes 34 seconds to top the podium, breaking the national record of 2 hour 47 minutes 24 seconds set by herself. She was followed by Myint Ay, an athlete of the host nation of Myanmar.

Pham Thi Binh is a very special runner of Vietnam Athletics. She not only ran in her bare feet but also had once life-threatening heart disease. Above all, she fought against the disease and won 2 silver medals in both 10,000-meter and marathon at the 26th SEA Games held in Indonesia in 2011.

Binh is the pride of the Athletics of Quang Ngai in particular and the country in general.
