PANO – Vietnam and Laos are two neighbours sharing the water of the Mekong River and the imposing Truong Son Mountain Range, and their special traditional ties have been constantly fostered from generations to generations.

During the resistance wars against French colonialists and American imperialists, the mutual cooperation and assistance served as an important factor in liberating the two countries. In those wars, a number of Vietnamese and Lao people died for their own national independence and freedom and for their combat solidarity and friendship. These noble and great sacrifices turned into invincible strength, a great driving force, contributing to the glorious victories of the revolutionary cause of both Vietnam and Laos, towards the final victory of Vietnam in 1975.
Vietnam-Laos’ special friendship and solidarity have been tempered by hardship and sacrifices over time and never been faded, but firmly flourished, becoming a rare, pure and exemplary relations in the world and this friendship would never be destroyed by any hostile forces.
The time-honoured ties between Vietnam and Laos, built by Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh and Lao President Kaysone Phomvihane, and nurtured by generations of Vietnamese and Lao leaders and people, has tempered the will and determination of the two peoples and created a firm foundation for them to be side by side with each other in the cause of national construction and development, contributing to the everlasting Vietnam-Laos special friendly neighbouring ties.
Over the past years, along with a number of animated activities launched at different levels in both Vietnam and Laos, the young generations of the two countries have been promoting their pioneer roles in preserving, consolidating and boosting the traditional faithful and bright relationship between the two peoples.
At the 2013 Vietnam-Laos Youth Friendly Meeting held in mid July, Vankhan Visavan of the Department for External Affairs of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Union’s Central Committee expressed his honour to be among the 60 member Lao delegation and affirmed that the rare special friendship between the two peoples has special importance for the young generations of the two countries because it is built from the flesh and bone sacrifice of generations of soldiers and people of the two countries.
“I have been told many times about the solidarity and friendship between the two peoples, still I was deeply moved and grateful to Vietnamese people for their love and assistance to the Lao cadres,” said Vankhan Visavan, after visiting a historical relic of the Lao revolution in Da Ban hamlet, My Bang commune, Yen Son district, Tuyen Quang province.
Meanwhile, Ounaphom Chanpasit of the Lao Ministry of Planning and Investment, and Sou Li Chanh of the Lao National Assembly Office, said that the young generations of the two countries should be aware of their honour, pride and responsibility to make the sacred valuable asset of the traditional relationship between Laos and Vietnam more flourishing and fruitful.
With the nurturing of young generations of the two countries, the tempered Vietnam-Laos special friendship and comprehensive cooperation will be fruitful forever as President Ho Chi Minh used to say that Vietnam-Laos’ sentiments are deeper than the Red and Mekong Rivers.
