Haiti President Joseph Michel Martelly made the statement while welcoming the Vietnamese ambassador Duong Minh to the Republic of Haiti who presented his credentials on January 11.
(VOV) – The Republic of Haiti is keen to further strengthen bilateral relations with Vietnam across the board.
The Haiti President spoke highly of the recent vigorous development of relations between the two countries, especially following Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe’s visit to Vietnam in late 2012.
He praised the military-run telecom Viettel Corporation’ operation in the central African nation and hoped that there will be more Vietnamese businesses investing and promoting trade in areas of mutual strength.
Martelly voiced his confidence that with joint efforts and determination, bilateral ties will produce mutually beneficial development.
Ambassador Minh passed on President Truong Tan Sang’s best wishes and regards to the President and people of Haiti and thanked them for their solidarity with the Vietnamese people in their previous struggles for independence and the current national construction and development.
Although bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation has obtained initial positive results it still far from matching the two countries’ potential, Minh noted.
He asked the Haiti Government to offer favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to promote investment and trade in Vietnam’s strong areas such as agriculture, telecommunication, construction and consumer goods production.
The Vietnamese diplomat pledged his best efforts to forge the ties of friendship and multifaceted cooperation in the interests of the two nations.
He also took the opportunity to lay a wreath at the Memorial to Haiti National Heroes and met with some Haiti parliamentary leaders and ministers.
