The Prime Minister approved some specific mechanisms and policies for Phu Quoc Island development, Kien Giang province. Accordingly, investors are granted the highest incentives and supports specified in Decree No. 29/2008/ND-CP of the Government on industrial zones, economic zones, and export processing zones when they invest in Phu Quoc Island.


Besides, foreigners and Vietnamese people holding foreign passports are free from visa for staying less than 30 days. In case foreigners entering Vietnam via an international border gate (both airway and seaway), staying in the transit area in that border gate before travelling to Phu Quoc Island, they will be also exempted from visa in accordance with this regulation.


Based on local budget, central budget and other sources from 2014 to 2015, Phu Quoc Island will focus investments on key projects such as road systems, airports, seaports, urban infrastructure, socio-economic development programmes and projects, health, education and urban environment. The island will encourage domestic and foreign investors to build infrastructure systems like waste and wastewater treatment system, high-grade hospitals, commercial systems, tourism – trade personnel training centres, non-tariff areas linked to Phu Quoc International Airport. Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People’s Committee is entitled to appoint infrastructure construction contractors on Phu Quoc Island in accordance with the Procurement Law. The decision of the Prime Minister shall take effect from March 10, 2014.
