The People’s Court in the northern province of Quang Ninh January 3 opened a trial court on 89 people, who illegally transported and traded in as many as 5,000 bricks of heroin and thousands of thousands of drug synthetic tablets.
Of these defendants, 66 are prosecuted on charges for which they can be sentenced to death.
These defendants were also indicted for counterfeiting materials of agencies and organizations, storing weapons, illegal trading, not denouncing crime, giving bribes and bribery brokerage.
According to the jury, these defendants organized transnational drug transport with a large quantity from Lao to Vietnam and China. The rings with sophisticated modus operandi were operated by Vietnamese people and foreigners. They will be ready to withstand police with various kinds of weapons.
According to the indictment, 89 defendants participated in four drug smuggling rings. Sa Van Cau, 40, who is hunted for by police, had led the first ring that trafficked drug synthetic tablets from Laos into Vietnam and China.
The second wing was headed by Nguyen Hung Dung and Song A Lau.
The third ring was operated by Nguyen Thanh Tuan and his wife Vu Thi Thanh Hien to transport drugs from Vietnam to China for sale. The last ring was led by Nguyen Thi Hoan and Nguyen Ngoc Doan.
It is scheduled that the hearing will last until February 20, 2014.
