Nhan Dan – The final match of the 2014 International U-19 Football Tournament ended yesterday at Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City with a 3-2 victory for U-19 Tottenham Hotspur over U-19 Vietnam.

The hosts kicked off the game with great determination to earn their first victory. They pushed up the pace with a barrage of quick crosses and created some scoring opportunities in the early minutes.


However, after Huy Duc missed two chances to open the scoring in the 6th and 10th minutes, Akindayin netted a goal to put U-19 Tottenham Hotspur ahead in the 15th minute.


After the visitors’ goal, both teams strengthened their attacks, but the first half ended in with no further goals.


The Vietnamese side exploded out of the gates in the second half with a number of dangerous attacks but Van Toan and Cong Phuong could not convert any of the chances.


In the 59th minute, Van Son took the golden chance created by a mistake by the Tottenham defensive line to level the score at 1-1. One minute later, Duc Huy gave the hosts the 2-1 lead with a quick counter-attack.


The game entered a period of particularly attractive play, but the home fans’ joy did not last long as Tottenham Hotspur equalised three minutes later on a penalty kick by Lesniak.


Seven minutes later, an effort by defender Dong Trieu turned into an own goal to put Tottenham Hotspur in front once again.


Concerted efforts by U-19 Vietnam in the final minutes did not pay off and the home side conceded the 2-3 loss.


Despite the defeat, their great performance, with sacrifice, spirit and talent has placed trust in Vietnamese fans of youth football, as well as hope for a brighter future for the national football team.


* Earlier, the game’s only goal, by Takahiro in the 49th minute, sealed a victory for U-19 Japan over U-19 AS Roma, helping the Japanese boys claim the champions mantle at this year’s tournament, followed by U-19 AS Roma and U-19 Tottenham Hotspur.
