As the Lunar New Year Festival (Tet) is coming, many foreign students studying in universities and colleges in Vietnam are very excited to welcome the traditional Tet of Vietnam.
This year, students of universities and colleges are off about two weeks on the Lunar New Year Festival. For domestic students, they are very eager to return home after a long semester. Many foreign students studying at universities and colleges in Vietnam are also very happy to welcome Vietnamese Tet, especially those welcoming their first Vietnamese Tet.
In the dormitory of the Hanoi Cultural University, there are only over 10 people because other Lao students have finished their exams and returned home. This year, it is possible there is no one staying in Vietnam to welcome Tet, but reminding to Tet of Vietnam, they amorously and honourably tell about the time they had welcomed Tet in Vietnam. On this chance, many students will try to stay in Hanoi to view the festive streets until near Tet and then return Laos.
“I have once welcomed Tet in Vietnam. I love Tet in Vietnam because on this occasion, all people are directed toward traditional values, reunite with their family. Streets are very busy before Tet, but during the Tet, streets are clean and quiet. When staying to welcome Tet in Vietnam, I was taken by my schoolmates to downtown, watch flowers, and go to their home to enjoy meal together with their families. On Tet, I and my friends also visited and wished happy new year to my teachers. That is unforgettable memory in my life,” said Savabanla, fourth-year student of the Hanoi Cultural University.
When talking about Vietnamese Tet, K.Agata (Polish nationality), student of the Faculty of Vietnamese studies and Vietnamese language of University of Social Sciences and Humanities under the Vietnam National University Hanoi, said “Last year, I was very fortunate to welcome the traditional Tet of Vietnam. So far, I still remember the feeling of excitement when joining with lines of people to gather around Hoan Kiem Lake to wait for the moment of the New Year’s Eve and watching the fireworks.”
Impressed with the meaningfulness of Tet in Hanoi, K.Agata said this Lunar New Year Festival she will invite her parents from her country to Vietnam to welcome Tet. “On this Tet, both parents will arrange time to welcome Tet with me. On this occasion, I introduce the traditional Tet in Vietnam to my parents, especially Vietnam’s traditional dishes I like so that my parents enjoy together. It is sure that my family have a exciting time,” shared K.Agata.
The Board of the Chairmen of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language of University of Social Sciences and Humanities said that on the occasion of this Tet, some foreign students studying at the faculty will stay in Vietnam to welcome Tet. Many other foreign students also plan to welcome Tet in Vietnam, including trips to enjoy cultural beauty in parts of the country.

I also intend to arrange time to welcome your traditional Tet and then return to Japan. The Vietnamese Tet through what I know is rich in traditional values, with “chung” cakes, peach flower, streets decorated with flowers. On Tet, everyone gathered around their family,” Natsuki Iwamoto shared.
