(CPV) – In spite of difficult forecast for 2013, agricultural products such as vegetables, fruit and cashew enjoyed sharp increase in export turnover. In 2014, numerous agricultural products are expected to continue to grow strongly.
According to Vietnam Vegetables and Fruit Association (Vinafruit), 2014 is full of good prospects. Exports of vegetables and fruit enjoyed annual average growth rate of 20-30 percent over the past few years and Vinafruit hopes to keep the growth rate in 2014.
Despite advantages in exports and sustainable sale prices around VND120,000 per kilogramme, the Vietnam Pepper Association made careful forecast for 2014 that about 125,000-130,000 tonnes of pepper will be shipped overseas, earning about USD900 million, equaling to the rate of 2013.
Vietnam Cashew Association forecast that in 2014, the cashew sector will still retain the same growth of the previous year on the basis of 2013 achievements.
In spite of targeting USD1.5 billion of export turnover for 2013, the cashew sector earned USD1.66 billion, up 19 percent in volume and 13 percent in value.
Regarding rice production in 2014, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Vietnam Food Association (VFA) forecast there will be no changes compared to 2013.
For consumption markets, VFA said that in spite of demand decline in Southeast Asia, Vietnam will possibly gain government-level orders when countries in the region need to import rice. In addition, China, the largest export market of Vietnam over the past two years, is forecast to continue to increase their imports in the following year. However, rice traders were warned to beware of commercial risks from the market.
VFA forecast Vietnam’s rice exports in 2014 will fluctuate around 6.5-7 million tonnes, equaling the predicted rate of the start of 2013. These estimated figures exclude small-volume exports, VFA said./.
