(VOV) – President Truong Tan Sang on March 27 received Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Jose Manual Garcia Margallo on a working visit to Vietnam.
President praised major trade cooperation potential between Vietnam and Spain, saying that the Spanish diplomat’s trip demonstrates the sound relationship and Vietnam always places importance on the strategic partnership with Spain.
The State leader told his host that Spain’s early rectification of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (VEFTA) will be an important legal foundation to promote bilateral trade ties in the time ahead.

Sang also affirmed Vietnam’s willingness to act as a gateway for Spain to penetrate the vast ASEAN market following the establishment of an ASEAN community in 2015.
He also proposed launching specific activities through the inter-governmental committee and the existing mechanisms so as to further boost economic and trade links.
The Spanish Minister agreed on further political cooperation and facilitation of businesses in market exploration as well as integration with the ASEAN and EU markets. The Minister pledged to expedite the EU early signing of its free trade pact with Vietnam.
