​The fifth Quang Ngai Provincial Sport Festival officially started in the afternoon of April 28 at the province’s Square.


The Festival, which is scheduled from April 29 to May 12, attracted 19 teams representing from 14 districts, city, departments, agencies, units, and nearly 1,000 athletes in the province. They will compete in several sports events such as: athletics, chess, table tennis, badminton, female football, etc.


Delivering opening speech for the 5th Provincial Sports Festival, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Quang Thich, head of the Steering Board and the Organizing Board of the 5th Quang Ngai Provincial Sports Festival affirmed that the festival was a major political and cultural event of the province because of its practical meanings.


For the success of the Festival, the Organizing Board members should uphold the spirit of responsibility, focus on managing sports activities in accordance with programs and plans, and ensure quality and safety of the Festival, he added.


The festival is an opportunity to select and add talented athletes to Quang Ngai’s sports delegation to attend the 7th National Sports Festival of the year 2014.


The traditional torch procession ceremony of the Festival was also conducted formally. The sacred flame was taken from the Province’s General Museum to the Square by athletes Pham Thi Binh – the national marathon champion who won the gold medal at the 27th SEA Games, Tran Quoc Viet – the boxing champion who won the silver medal at the 27th SEA Games and some typical athletes of the province.


Then, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee received and lighted the torch for the 5th Quang Ngai Provincial Sports Festival.
