The Vietnamese Ambassador to Algeria Vu The Hiep on May 5 held a press conference to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory (May 7, 1954 – May 7, 2014).
At the meeting, the ambassador provided information relating to this event to the local press. He also introduced and presented Vietnam’s growing economic potential.
Before a large number of reporters from radio and television stations and editorial offices, Ambassador Vu The Hiep reviewed the main features of the Dien Bien Phu victory. This historic event brought the nine-year resistance war of the people of Vietnam to complete victory, ending more than 80 years of domination by French colonialism. The victory also created favorable conditions and prerequisites for a series of other colonies to fight and assert their independence, leading to the complete collapse of the colonialism system in the world.
Ambassador Vu The Hiep also talked about the cause of the victory and the significance of this historic event not only for Vietnam but also globally. As a result, Vietnam became the leading flag of the national liberation fighting movement in the world in the 20th century.
He said that the victory taught many precious lessons, which continue to be core values. The ambassador also responded to many questions by reporters about innovation and the socio-economic achievements of Vietnam as well as the positive, friendly relationship between Vietnam and Algeria. He also affirmed that Vietnam has always been a good friend of Algeria in the cause of building the country./.
