Vietnam denies claims that it violated international regulations related to the missing Flight MH370.

Nhan Dan – There is no evidence that Malaysia’s missing Flight MH370 had entered the Vietnamese-administered Ho Chi Minh flight information region (FIR), said Lai Xuan Thanh, head of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

The affirmation was made on May 4 after the Malay Mail Online reported Director General of Malaysia’s Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) Datuk Azharuddin Abdul Rahman’s allegation that Vietnamese controllers breached aviation protocol by asking about MH370 17 minutes after it vanished from radar.

Azharuddin claimed that, at 1:19 am on March 8, Kuala Lumpur air traffic controllers ordered Flight MH370 to change frequency to that of their counterparts at the Ho Chi Minh Area Control Centre (ACC).

However, Azharuddin alleged that the Ho Chi Minh ACC staff only enquired about the jet at 1:38 am, which he said took 12 minutes longer than the standard window of five minutes, the Malay Mail Online reported.

Thanh contested Azharuddin’s claim, saying that no evidence suggested that MH370 had passed the Igari navigational waypoint into the Ho Chi Minh FIR administered by Vietnamese air controllers.

He said that the Ho Chi Minh ACC radar system lost signal of the flight at 1:20:43 just before 1:22, when the control of the flight was expected to be transferred to Vietnam.

He added that Malaysia’s radar system also affirmed that the last time it received a signal from the flight was before 1:22, at which time the plane was within the Malaysian-administered Singapore FIR.

Thanh said the CAAV has not yet received official confirmation from the DCA of Azharuddin’s statement.

Since the moment MH370 was reported missing on March 8, Vietnam has shown itself to be a responsible country, co-ordinating closely with Malaysia and neighbouring countries and providing all available information to help with the search efforts.
