The provincial People’s Committee Vice Chairman has required the company to complete remedying environmental violations before June 30, 2014.
Vice Chairman of the Hai Duong provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Anh Cuong on June 11 required GFT Vietnam Co., Ltd. to complete remedying environmental violations before June 30, 2014.
GFT Vietnam Co., Ltd. is a fully foreign-invested enterprise building a factory in Cong Lac commune (Tu Ky) to produce, process, and assemble children’s toys.
During the construction, simultaneous with operation, the company violated the laws on environmental protection and water resources (reported by the Hai Duong Newspaper on March 11, 2014), but it then realized and immediately remedied the violations at the request of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment.
However, the company’s violation remedying was slow and not thorough. On May 10, the foot of the company’s northern surrounding wall broke, making water and sand in the leveling process spill out, affecting some farming area of people.
The Police Division for Environmental Crime Prevention and Fighting (provincial Public security) and the Tu Ky district People’s Committee detected the incident and required the company to focus on settlement.
Due to the impact of China’s illegal placement of the rig Haiyang 981 in Vietnam’s waters, there was a time when the enterprise gave workers temporary leave, influencing production activities and the progress of remedying, repairing the above breaches.
