The People’s Committee of the southern province of Kien Giang has implemented a project to care for children in need. Beneficiaries of the initiative include homeless orphans, abandoned children, children with HIV/AIDS, child victims of toxins, seriously disabled children and those who are affected by natural disasters and calamities. The project will run until 2020. The project is being carried out with a total capital of VND20 billion, including VND16 billion from central support and almost VND3.7 billion from the provincial budget, with the rest coming from other sources. By 2020, the project aims to provide 95% of extremely disadvantaged children with social assistance and suitable social services; develop time-limit adoption of children for 80% of the children; and expand the boarding care for seriously disabled children, victims of toxins and those infected with HIV/AIDS. Accordingly, the province will build up vocational training and job creation models for disadvantaged children; upgrade facilities and equipment for social sponsor foundations; and increase the capacity of care and treatment. The project aims to make an important contribution to assist extremely disadvantaged children in stabilising their lives, enjoying their rights, and narrowing the gap in living standards between extremely disadvantaged children and the normal level./. |
