Vietnamese teenager does well at San Jose Piano Competition

Young budding pianist Nguyen Quang Hong An received Honourable Mention in the intermediary category at the prestigious 15th Annual San Jose International Piano Competition held from June 7-16 in San Jose, California.



In recognition of his achievement the 14-year-old student from the Conservatory of Ho Chi Minh City was awarded two full scholarships to attend the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, and St. Andrew’s College in Ontario, Canada.


An was the first Vietnamese to represent the country in the competition, and she was the first Asian competitor to receive such honour.


The San Jose International Piano Competition is sponsored by a California non-profit organization with a mission of providing excellence and education through competition and performance with emphasis on Russian music.


This year’s annual competition drew the participation of 91 competitors from around the globe.
