Vietnam and Thailand enhance defence cooperation

PANO – Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan on July 25th received a visiting delegation of Thai military experts, led by Lieutenant General Tamchaiyan Srisuwan, Head of the Joint Operations Department of the Royal Thai Army.


At the reception, the Thai general briefed on the outcomes of the third conference of the Vietnam-Thailand Joint Working Group, and affirmed that the two sides’ armies should broaden their bilateral defence cooperation while promoting the existing ones in the time to come.

General Tuan hailed the relationship and cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand, and stressed that their armies are an important and active stimulant within ASEAN, so that they have to promote responsibility and dynamism to complete the building of the ASEAN Community by 2015 for the regional peace, cooperation and stability.



He added that Vietnam hoped to learn from Thailand’s experience in conducting UN peacekeeping missions, and to receive its cooperation and support in hosting the ASEAN Conference of Army Commanders and ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet this year.


The Vietnamese general also wished the two armies should promote their cooperation in conducting delegation exchanges at all levels and sharing experience in naval field, search and rescue, military medicine, and education and training.
